Board of Directors
Kristi Berg is a founding member and the current president of Stand Up 8 Foundation. She's a lifelong athlete who discovered the joy of running as a young mom. Since then, she's finished more than 45 marathons (and countless other races).
She's the head marathon coach for Fleet Feet Menlo Park. Kristi relocated to the Bay Area a few years ago from Minneapolis, where she worked in education as a speech language pathologist.
The development director for Stand Up 8, Mark Berg is a co-founder of the group and the vision behind its inception. After being almost immobilized due to illness over the course of a difficult year, Mark has a renewed and profound appreciation for the joy of movement. He's a retired emergency room doctor and relocated to the Bay Area from Minneapolis a few years ago.
Jim Gothers is the owner of Fleet Feet Menlo Park. He has seen firsthand how improving fitness can improve quality of life in body and mind. And how running can build community.
He's the head coach for Fleet Feet Menlo Park's Getting Started Running program as well as the store's Good Form Running trainer.
Edgar Jaro was raised in the Bay Area. Although he wasn't much of a runner in his youth, after participating in a local half marathon five years ago, running has become an indispensable part of his life. Edgar quickly realized the transformative power running had on both his mind and body. Through regular running, he increased his fitness level, steadied his mind, improved his focus level, and most of all, he saw an incredible rise in self-confidence and efficacy. Wanting to share his passion for running and give back to the community simultaneously, Edgar helped found Stand Up 8 to reach out to our communities in the Bay Area and spread the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
Carolyn Obata is Stand Up 8's secretary, a team coach, and a three-time marathon finisher.
She's also run multiple half-marathons. She co-organizes the annual fall race Fremont Run 4 Education, benefiting area schools.
Mary Beth Richardson
Mary Beth Richardson is the Treasurer for Stand Up 8 Foundation. By good luck, Mary Beth made friends with the wonderful group of Stand Up 8 founders who helped her grow from a 4-mile-a-week runner to actually running half and full marathons.
As a physical therapist, Mary Beth is interested in healthy running and good form for improved performance and injury prevention.
Lisa Taggart is a coach for the Addison School Run Club, where she struggles to keep up with the elementary school athletes but loves it anyway.
Lisa is also the race director for the group's annual Ghost Run 5K in downtown Menlo Park. She is a co-owner of Fleet Feet Menlo Park.
